Effective remedies for sore throat

Introduction

A sore throat typically causes pain, itchiness, or irritation. Sometimes it gets vulnerable to control and people have to take medicines for sore throat. But, medicines are the last option for sore throat.

The pain may get worse when one swallows, making it difficult to consume foods and liquids. Home remedies help to decrease pain in these situations. Some of them are honey, lemon water, peppermint tea, and many more. Even throat lozenges may also relieve pain.

The most common symptom of sore throat is throat pain. Other symptoms are:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Running nose
  • Swallowing difficulty
  • Vomiting

REMEDIES FOR SORE THROAT AT HOME:

Honey

    It is a sweetener that people even combine with other natural ingredients to soothe a sore throat like a combination of honey with warm water or apple cider. Warm water and honey also help Tonsils.  Not only is honey itself a remedy for sore throat but it also makes certain remedies taste better.  

    Humans use honey as a medicine because it has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. Never give honey to children under age one because they have yet to acquire honey bacteria that can fight off some germs present in honey.

    Saltwater gargling

    It is the simplest remedy with a simple recipe that only needs warm water and ½ teaspoon of salt.

    Cinnamon

    Cinnamon is packed with antioxidants which lend a mild analgesic(pain killer) and anti-inflammatory effects. In Indian medicine, cinnamon is a traditional remedy for colds, flu, and sore throats.

    Drink fluids

    Drinking fluids can help to treat sore throat as it keeps the throat moist. Swallowing is difficult in sore throat conditions but drinking plenty of water can help heal the throat fast. Avoid intake of alcohol and caffeine because it will dehydrate the body, ultimately making the throat worse.

    Lozenges

    Lozenges or hard candies are useful for sore throat conditions. It gives relief and maintains moisture in the throat. Sucking a throat lozenge or candy helps to produce saliva in the mouth and can soothe a sore throat.

    Peppermint

    Peppermint contains menthol which is known for giving fresh breath. It can also be used as a remedy for throat pain as it has anti-inflammatory properties and some antibacterial and antiviral qualities that help to relieve sore throat.

    SUMMARY

    Sore throat is not a very problematic condition or sickness. It can happen to anyone. However one should take it seriously if it is not decreasing and become worse. If the sore throat is not getting better after 1-2 weeks then one should visit a doctor as it can be a throat cancer.
